It has been a few years since Captain Hearn passed. I served under his leadership while on the Hollyhock (WLM220). He was a great leader and I often think of him. May GOD bless his family.

J.R. Hearn, Somewhere in the Caribbean - 1983

I worked with him again in 1985 when I spent 35 days of temporary duty at the Seventh Coast Guard District office of Law Enforcement. He took...

John R. Hearn, CO of the USCGC UTE
My Condolences to the Hearn Family. I was a seaman onboard the USCGC Ute when Capt. Hearn was her Skipper. Although I never saw Capt. Hearn again after he left the Ute, I have thought about him often through the years. Respect and Admiration are what comes to mind when I think of him. I learned a lot under his command and he always had a kind word and friendly advice for me. He was a Great Captain. You will be missed Capt. Hearn. May God Bless and keep your Family. Godspeed...

Capt. Hearn was my CO on the USCGC Hollyhock out of Miami Beach Florida in 1974. He was a great leader and well respected by those who served under him.

Captain Hearn was a man with a rough exterior and a kind heart. I will always remember him asking, "How's your bride?" and his natural ability to keep a check on his crew and their families. With love and sympathy Kevin and Cathy Kelmartin.
