LT.JG Al Blanks was the Combat Information Center Officer when I came aboard the Destroyer USS Lowry in 1951 as a new Ensign in the U.S.N.R. I knew very soon that Al was headed for many advancements. He had already worked his way up from a Seaman to become a commissioned Officer.
