Carl was a wonderful man and I looked up to him growing up in Grand Rapids and each summer at Idlewood Beach in Holland.
He and Gail and their friends seemed so sophisticated when they would have confabs at their cottage in Idlewood. My mom and Dad were good friends of Carl and Gail and we love, love, love their daughters Nancy, Barb and Sue.

Carl was a mentor and a friend. He and Gail helped us get through our kids' teenage years, usually over dinner, drinks and dancing at The Hatch in Holland. Time with him at Perico Bay Club in Florida was so special. My dad was a great guy, but somehow Carl filled in the blanks and helped me be the person I've become. I'm forever grateful.
