Remembering Carl is remembering Tom Aston. They were the best friends and spurred each other on. Carl had a wonderful sense of humor and Tom convinced him to work at the Michigan Renaissance faire at his game Hunker Hauser. It was hilarious! Anna who is one of my dearest friends at the same time was in the Middle Eastern Dance Ensemble. These were the best of times!

Dear Anna Barnes:
I hold you in prayer during your time of loss. I just learned about Carl's passing through the O U Alumni Magazine. Maybe you don't remember me, but I was a student of yours in 1973 and 1974 in Spanish classes. May God bless you and greatly comfort you at this time.
Sincerely,
Karen Witzke (248)376-9019

We knew Carl through his visits to his wonderful parents, our dear friends Ella and Carl Barnes,Sr. We had interesting talks comparing the Arts and Science educational programs at Oakland University vs University of Virginia. He was a charming, articulate and learned man. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family

Carl and Anna have been close friends of
Thomas Aston & me (Aida) for many years.
Now Carl & Thomas are together and as long as we are thinking about them they will always be with us too.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Anna and family. Carl contributed greatly to the Art History Department at Oakland University. He was a good instructor and brilliant mind. Due to his teachings and stories, we think of Carl when viewing Japanese scrolls. We know he will be greatly missed.
