They called him "The People's Doctor."Carl Brumback was Palm Beach County's first public health doctor. In 1951, long before it was fashionable or even on the radar, he identified 56 health hazards in the county, including raw sewage being dumped into Lake Worth. He's honored in stone, with the...

Not sure what to say?

My heart is heavy with the loss of Dr.Carl...I enjoyed his company for over eight years almost every week. I spent hours with him as he worked with me to write the best term paper for my Political Science class. It was about his life. And, what a compassionate life he lived. He so loved to have me bring my dog over to have parties with all his friends. Thank you for all my memories. Love to all his family. Forever grateful, Teresa Goletz

Dr. Brumback was truly one of the most compassionate souls to ever grace a health department. He was a class act and no one else could ever come within reach of him. His spirit and energy for the work was a beautiful thing. Peggy Butler, RN

Carl L. Brumback, to most of us an inspirational and visionary leader, a sage expert in legislative affairs, a very competent physician and compassionate man.
In addition to all of the above atributes,to me Dr Bumbrack was also a great mentor and the best advocate for
Public Health.

Dr. B,
What a great spirit , energetic and compassionate for great causes! Fought fiercely and tirelessly for the underserved community. He was a good role model/educator for all professions in the public health clinics...he has left a legacy, and big shoes to fill for the rest of us in all areas of medicine. He never really retired....thanks for everything you brought to the Palm Beach County Health Dept ...and beyond....

Dr B, your legacy will live on in the Glades area, our hearts and in our minds
We will never forget you...

I had the privilege of working under Dr. Brumback's leadership as the Palm Beach County Health Department's public drinking water program manager in the late '70s and early 80's. HIs calmness and thoughtfulness helped to the Department address many of the volatile drinking water issues of that time.

Palm Beach county has lost a great health advocate. Rest in peace Dr. B.

In 1974,when working at the Palm Beach County Health Department, I found Dr. Brumback to be a compassionate, forward thinking and creative man. More than that, he encouraged the staff to have the same mind-set, so that the entire department could work to their greatest potential. truly an exptional man.

"Dr. Brumback helped me fall in love with Public Health. He taught me that in Public Health you work for your community not for yourself. There is no greater reward. His legacy will live on in our Public Health family."

I recall with nostalgia that day in old Glades General when he said, "Ben, call me Carl" -- something I could never bring myself to do because of my profound respect for him. Too bad there aren't more like him today.
