Carl H. Dorr, age 88, of Oak Ridge went to be with Jesus on January 22, 2010. He was born December 26, 1921 in Birmingham, AL, the son of Louie L. and Beulah Adair Dorr. Mr. Dorr was a member of Central Baptist Church for 59 years, where he served as deacon and always greeted friends at the door with smiles and hugs. He was employed at Continental Gin in Birmingham and served three years in the US Army Field Artillery during WWII. He married Juanita Summers in 1946 and they moved to Oak Ridge where he was employed at the Union Carbide Nuclear Corp., Y-12 facility, February 26, 1951, retiring from Y-12 after 33 years of service. Mr. Dorr was an avid golfer and won the first City Tournament of Oak Ridge in 1951 and several Oak Ridge Country Club tournaments. He also enjoyed woodworking, especially making special items for his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Summers Dorr, 3 sons, Bobby (Nancy) Dorr of Trussville, Al, Wayne (Susie) Dorr of Hendersonville, TN, and Dennis (Linda) Dorr of Charlotte, NC. 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive Monday, January 25, 5 – 7 PM at Central Baptist Church with the funeral service following, Rev Glenn Ellis officiating. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, 3 PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, AL. with Rev. Allen Hill officiating. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Central Baptist Church, 130 Providence Rd., Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Weatherford Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
