Carl L. Durrett AFTON Carl Lace Durrett, of Durrett Town Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his residence after losing the battle with lung cancer. Carl was born on June 1, 1932, in Afton, Virginia, a son of Forrest E. and Annie Mae (Wallace) Durrett. Carl was a member of Union Baptist Church in Avon, and he served on the Deacon Board and was the church treasurer for over forty years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Durrett and Adgenoris Durrett; three brothers, Maryland Durrett, Thurman Durrett Sr. and Sterling Durrett Sr. Carl is survived by his wife, Frances (Howard) Durrett "Sweetie" of 57 years; children, a daughter, Corey D. Taylor and husband, Gregory; a son, Corbett H. Durrett and wife, Susan, both of Afton, Virginia; five sisters, Nellie Michael and Vernice Washington, both of Staunton, Virginia, Katherine Brown of Newport News, Virginia, Elstoria Johnson of Afton, Virginia, and Theresia Jackson and husband, Franklin, of Crozet, Virginia; four grandchildren, Christina Taylor and Douglas Taylor, both of Afton, Virginia, Cameron Durrett and Cal Durrett, both of Glen Allen, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Lace McGann; brothers and sisters-in-law of the Howard family; a host of nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Teresa, Barbara, Laura and Linda of the Hospice of the Piedmont and Dr. Nicholas Paphitis of the Hope Center in Fishersville, Virginia. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Union Baptist Church in Afton. Burial will be held at the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service for viewing. The family will receive friends at the residence. Professional services entrusted to the McCutcheon's Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Virginia.

I am so sad to hear of Carl's passing, but I have lots of memories of him visiting my grandma and grandpa, Mary and Charles Thompson. He was always visiting and helping out with family projects and I loved visiting your home. He is now with his heavenly family. Frances, Corey, and Corbin . . . thinking of you at this time!
