KNUTH, Carl "Spike", of Mechanicsville, went on ahead on November 12, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife, Susie; two sons, Barry and Matt; and six grandchildren. Although he retired from the VDGIF in 2003, Spike continued to passionately share his love and appreciation for nature and the great outdoors through his writing, illustrating and painting for magazines, art galleries and his personal blog, "Notes From Our Backyard." The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, November 16, at the family residence. Online condolences may be registered at www.bennettfuneralhomes.com.

Not sure what to say?

Stacie Creevy Knuth

Carl was like a father to me.

One of the most precious things we can have in life is a good friend, one who always offers praise and support and never negative response. That was Spike Knuth. Spike had enormous personality and talent, was always just a regular guy and had a heart full of love, gratitude, and praise. Spike was a special friend, which I shall never forget. Condolences to the family. Spike, I will see you again "over yonder"!

So sorry for your loss. Will miss his articles in my co-op magazine. Always enjoyed listening to his talks. My prayers are with you, Susie.

We are so sad to hear of Spike's passing. He was a dear friend who we got to know through the Virginia Outdoor Writers Association. We have many of his works of art, with our favorite being the buffalo in a snowstorm, which he did especially for us. Every time we look at one of his paintings it will remind us of the good times we enjoyed together. He was a very special person. Being from Wisconsin we shared a special love for the Packers. Go Green Bay!
