Not sure what to say?

Thanks to Carl's encouragement, I developed a love for mountain climbing and the outdoors. As a young teenager in the 1970's I joined him on climbs of Mount St. Helens two or three times - when the mountain was still nearly 10,000 feet, Mt. Washington twice, The Middle Sister twice, and The South Sister once. At this stage of my life (50ish) I am so thankful for Carl's guidance and friendship during those formative years. It helped to give me confidence to summit other Northwest peaks and...

I have a vivid picture in my mind of Carl sliding into 2nd base, then popping up - ready to race to 3rd. He always put his whole heart into everything he did - work or play. There was no one more friendly and willing to help than Carl - all the time and any time. He always had that slight smile and a gleam in his eyes. Those Sunday afternoons of First Immanuel softball are still fresh in my mind - and Carl was a huge part of that. I'll remember him and cheer for him forever.

I hadn't read the obituaries for weeks and when I opened the paper this past rainy Wednesday morning, my heart cried when I read of your passing. I told Phill immediately and the moment was very somber, but it didn't take long to remember that some of our very best days we spent in your company. You were and are the best! I am thanking God that he sent you to all of us, for what would life be if we hadn't known you? You are a gem. Your smile and cigar will not be forgotten. Thanks for all...

Carl Koch was a very special friend to our family, particularly in the 1970's when my sons were growing up. He was a dedicated member of our church and provided caring leadership in wonderful outdoor activities, willingly sharing his considerable expertise related to hiking and mountain climbing. These were never-to-be-forgotten experiences and will always be truly appreciated.

Deepest sympathy is sent to all his family.

We still laugh until tears roll down our face when we think of our vacation with you and Pauline in Mexico. The rented back firing jeep, the little restaurant off the main highway and your "Mexican Revenge" on the flight home. You had a kind and caring heart. You showed kindness and understanding to our special needs children. You also had a wicked and funny sense of humor.
Via con Dios.

Carl was one of our dearest friends. He was truly a gentle man, caring, gracious and had a generous nature. He also had a clever sense of humor and a realistic outlook on life in general. We're going to miss the daily telephone conversations and bi-weekly coffee fests! He was truly one of the "nice guys".
God bless your family.

Carl, you taught a lot about patience and kindness, as well as playing and coaching. Thanks for being as involved as you were, and still are in our hearts. You will be thought of and missed on and off of the playing field.

Although I was scared to death of you, you totally made me feel like a part of your family, as if I were your son; not just your son-in law. The scariest time of my life was asking your permission to marry your daughter. When you approved, it was the happiest moment of my life.
I enjoyed getting to know you and getting advice throughout the last 15 years. I love you as my own father and will miss you more than you could ever know.
You taught me patience, unconditional love, and how to...

I love you Pop. Thank's for being the best Dad a girl could ever wish for.
