Not sure what to say?

Ave atque vale, magister.

I had the great privilege to have Magister Medicus for three years of Latin before he retired from Pius XI at the end of my junior year. I can't get any further than "Gallia est omna divisa in partes tres" these days, but I carried on the fundamentals of language he taught me through college and into my career. (Not to mention the great stories he told us of his adventures abroad.) What a wonderful man! What a wonderful life! My deepest sympathies to you and your family--I will carry my...

Mary,

I was sorry to hear of your fathers passing. From everything I heard about him from you and many others he was quite a guy. Even though he has gone onto a better place he will always be with you.

One exhausts superlatives in describing Mr. Medicus. One of the finest teachers I have ever encountered. Pius XI High School's history is truly enriched from his service. Pax Mr. Medicus.

Maggie, Mary, and Mel,
Our sympathy on your loss. We are so grateful that we were able to speak to Carl last week. We will miss our dear freind, neighbor, and mentor so very much, as will all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mary,
I was saddened to see your Dad's name in the obituaries. From the other entries in this guest book, he sounds like quite a guy. My Dad passed away three weeks ago, so I have some small idea of what you are going through. I know we haven't seen each other in forever, but let me know if I can do anything for you.

Dear Mary,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a great guy and a well loved teacher. I am sure he will be missed by many. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I was sad to stumble upon this notice. Mr. Medicus was a great teacher! At Pius XI, he was tough...but not the kind of tough where you were afraid or apprehensive...it was the kind of tough that made you want to do well because you wanted to impress him and earn his praise. He would spend time after class helping you if you needed it and he was never one to put you on the spot if he sensed you weren't grasping something very well. His lessons and influence helped me in all of my studies there...

In nomine patre et filii et spiritu sancti...I say the entire prayer in latin every night and have since Mr. Medicus' class (Pius XI class of '01). I went on to study Latin in college because of his infectious love for the language. His kind spirit and caring soul will remain with me forever. I am blessed to have known him. Let perpetual light shine upon him!
