He was a U.S. Marine Veteran who served two tours in Korea., and was ranked as a Staff Sergeant prior to his return home. Carl met and married the love of his life, Hazel. He was a wonderful husband, and father who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. Carl's family has been long time members of the Lakeview Methodist Church in Pelham. Carl loved God, his country, auto racing, and Alabama football. For those who knew him his biggest delight and pride, above all else, was family. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Hazel Powell; his wife, Hazel S. Powell; and his sister, Jean Ponder. He is survived by his son, Eddie  Powell (Lucinda).

The celebration of Carl's life will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Pkwy., Hoover, AL,  from 12-1 PM with the service to follow at 1 PM in the Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lakeview Methodist Church in Carl's honor.

Not sure what to say?

I light this candle to remind everyone that Carl always followed the light; throughout his life, and even now that he has gone to be with his lifetime bride Hazel & our Lord. He was more than a father-in-law to me, he was a Dad, and a very dear friend. I will miss your greatly 'Dad', but I will keep my promises to you.

I'm so sorry about your dad Eddie! I lost my dad when I was 17, so just remember the times you had with him and keep those memories in your heart. Thoughts and prayers and with you and your family during this difficult time.

Forever rest in peace old friend. Eddie he was a good man who always told me how proud he was of you...he was your biggest fan. So sorry for your loss.

We are so sorry to hear of our cousin's passing. My Mom, his aunt Marie, loved to get phone calls from him. She sends her love along with Charlene and I, and our thoughts and prayers for all the family.

So sorry to hear about Carl. He's out of pain and in heaven with Hazel, and Mom and Dad and the rest of the family.

Carl has been not only a friend but like a brother to me for many years. There is hardly anything that we have not shared with each other. Our families have been like one. In the last few days we talked to each otherevery day by phone even though we now lived miles apart. I will surely miss him but celebrate that he is now with his wife Hazel and they will enjoy peace and happiness forever with our Lord.
