I had the privilege of working for Carl Smith the last six of my 24 years with the Department of Civil Rights in Lansing. Those years were the highlight of my entire career!!!! I learned so much from him over the years and always had so much respect for him. We kept in touch after our retirements - it was always a great learning experience to talk with him. We had just talked a few weeks ago and were planning on a get-together soon in Grand Rapids with the other staff, also. I will...

We are praying for you and your family. God bless you and give you strength during this time of loss.

My heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Carl.
Working with him for so many years was and unforgettable experience and education. He was totally committed and dedicated. He will always be remembered for the MAN that he was.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Mr. Carl Smith will be missed. My special prayers sent to the family. I will always remember him for teaching me my early Black History. Deb (Gibbons) Bates

My deepest consolences to the Smith Family. I worked for Brother Smith at the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, he hired me in the late 70's (Sept 1978). I also work for him as a lay-out artist when he was owner and publisher of the "Organizer" Grand Rapids' Africian American Newspaper. I learned so much from Bro. Smith, and will miss him dearly.

I dearly miss you Carl Smith. I thank God we were able to spend quality time together three weeks ago ... My mentor, my advisor, my teacher!
