Mr. Carl Eric Swanstrom Jr. of Ozark passed away at his residence Friday, March 3, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 53.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Swanstrom will be 7 p.m. Monday, March 6, in the chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with John Withrock officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday evening beginning at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in memory of Mr. Swanstrom to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL 36301.

Mr. Swanstrom was born March 29, 1952, in Torrance, Calif., and has lived in the Ozark area since 1986. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the Alabama Army Reserve after 23 years of service. He was the chief of Transportation Maintenance with Shaw I & I. He retired from civil service with 27 years. He loved to travel and enjoyed being outdoors, especially camping and RVing with his family. He enjoyed working in his yard and cooking and was an avid golfer. He will always be remembered for his love for his family and friends and as a reliable helping hand to all of his friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Carl Eric Swanstrom Sr. and Virginia Myrtle (Brakes) Swanstrom.

Surviving family include his wife, Mrs. Linda Swanstrom of Ozark; three daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Tony Khatami of La Quinta, Calif., Erica Sue and Jeff Heath of Ozark, and Michele and John Milldrum of Dothan; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Melissa Manhard of Spanish Fork, Utah; one sister, Deborah Ligons of Richmond, Va.; one aunt, Mary Ann Reynolds of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren, Cassidy, Daisha, Kylie, Emma, Colby, Chelsea, Madison and West; six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; and his beloved pets, Lulu, Jose, and Polly.

The family would like express special thanks to Covenant Hospice, Nurse Lori Bigham, Bill Spivey and Bro. John Withrock. Also, special thanks to Southern Clinic, Dr. Morriss III and staff, Dothan Hematology, Dr. Mayor and staff, and Southeast Cancer Center, Dr. Dossman and staff.

I am so sorry to hear about Carl. He touched so many lives. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a friend of mine for a long time. It seems unfair for his untimely passing. Love to Linda and the rest of the family.

I was very saddened to hear of Carl's demise. I worked for Carl when he first came to Fort Rucker, AL and he was a wonderful boss. My deepest sympathy and condolences to the Swanstrom family.

Carl was a great friend and colleague; I will truly miss him. He was always ready to reach out and help at a moments notice. He had a ready smile in every situation. Carl seemed to fully enjoy his work and every member of his workforce.
