Carl Thompson Obituary

Carl Thompson

February 19, 1931 - July 23, 2025

Fairview Heights, Illinois - Carl E. Thompson, age 94, of Fairview Heights, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Memorial Care Center in Belleville, IL.

He was born on February 19, 1931, in Cecil, OH, to the late Emmett and Marguerite (nee Laymann) Thompson.

Carl proudly served as a radio operator in the United States Air Force, retiring after a distinguished military career. He later retired from Sears, where he continued to demonstrate the same dedication and work ethic. A happy-go-lucky man with a quick wit and a warm smile, he was known for his jokes and lighthearted spirit. He loved going out for dinner, working in the yard, and spending time with those he held dear. Above all, he cherished his family deeply and brought joy to every gathering with his humor and easygoing nature. His legacy of laughter, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded by two sons: Gary and Michael Thompson; daughter, Barbara; and brothers: George, Charles, and Paul Thompson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ingrid Victoria (nee Harmon) Thompson, whom he married on May 19, 2005; children: Sharon (Richard) Kuhlmann, Chris Wasser, and Lindsey Wasser; grandchildren: Landry Wasser, Briar Wasser, Dawn Kuhlmann, and Nicole Hayden; great-grandchild, Alex Hayden; and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

No services will be held at this time.

Contributions in Carl's memory may be made to Children's Hospital and Wounded Warriors.

Carl was fine man very kind to every person had a great sense of humor loved to tell a joke. I worked with Carl from 1981 till he retired he was a mentor at work and at life.I think of Carl as one I admired the most at work and I am retired and still think of Carl that jokester and what a technician.

Mr. Thompson took his many responsibilities seriously, performed them diligently and proficiently, with grace and often a chuckle. He was reliably loyal to his family and country. Carl had an appropriate sense of right and wrong. He was a wonderful ally but a determined adversary. Over 50 years I him to be a reliable friend, a patriot, and an admirable combination of strength and humility. What a fine man.
