It is truly a blessing to have known and to have been a student of Dr. Carlene Polite. She was a remarkable woman and teacher who pulled out the best in her students. I will truly miss this jazzy lady who use to wear her tam(hat) to the side while embracing her students during class. She will always be imprinted in my heart. God Bless Dr. Polite and her family

I am blessed to have met Dr. Polite at the University of Buffalo. She was a fantastic teacher. I remember taking a class with her and she was hospitalize for most of the semester, but she instructed her teaching assistant to continue with the class. The class was recorded for Dr. Polite and she was pleased with us all when she returned. She is a major reason why I buy books today for no reason, except to build my library. Rest in Peace Dr. Polite, your spirit will live with us forever.

To my family ,the passing of my AuntyMom,is a great loss to me ,and by the Grace of GOD,now her free spirit is now truly free to watch over us anlong with the rest of our dearly departed family members.I loved my aunt like no other.

To the Family of Ms. Polite, meeting her was the first encounter I had with a professor who really cared about the success of their students. Her passion for educating not only her race, but all mankind has transcended throughout many students she taught at UB. As many of her students can attest to, she defintely knew how to reach you. My very first day in her class, she said to me, "A person's eyes are the window to their soul...you are an engineer/scientist, I don't know which but you...

I remember Mrs. Polite, as an extremely creative person and mom to my friend Leila. Through the eyes of a high schooler, she made you take time to think about the environment, which surrounds you and embrace it. She was one of the cool and intellectual mothers.

Condolences to Carlene's family. I never met Professor Polite but did receive a phone call from her one day. She took the time to tell me that my son, one of her students had the potential to be a great writer. She would be as proud of him today as I am. I've always remembered that call.
Rest in Peace sweet lady.

Rest in peace dear professor, friend and LADY.

Carlene was a wonderful writer and wonderful teacher. I was in one of her first classes at the University at Buffalo in the early 70s. She said in Creative Writing she would give an A only if she thought the recipient should earn his or her living by writing. I worked hard for the A I got and felt it justified the writing ambitions I'd had since childhood. Now I am a full professor, a novelist, essayist, and playwright. I owe much of who I am to Carlene. Thank you, Professor Polite.
