Carlene G. Swartz, age 81, of Wilmington, NC passed away June 3, 2024.


Carlene was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on December 31, 1942, to the late Carl L. and Norma L. Goatcher. She is preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Terri Lynn Martin.


 


Carlene is survived by her husband of 45 years, Micheal E. Swartz and Michael’s children Shawn Swartz and Michele Garcia. Carlene’s son James Martin and daughter-in-law, Melissa Wright along with granddaughter Angelina Martin; Sister, Annette Goatcher, niece and nephew Ashley and Will Arey and many special friends and coworkers she shared her life with over the years.


 


Carlene was very caring to all that were in her life, family, friends and acquaintances. A very driven businesswoman having first owned an accounting firm and went on as founder of Island Appliance in Wilmington along with her husband, Mike. Carlene originally grew up in St Joseph, Missouri where she later moved to North Carolina and attend the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and then graduated with a master’s degree in accounting at UNC Charlotte.


 


Carlene loved life and especially loved accomplishment. She enjoyed running her business until which time she could no longer do so, enjoyed traveling and making new friends.


 


A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, with visitation at 11:00 AM, at Andrew’s Mortuary, Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington.

We are so sorry we just learned of Carlene’s death today! Having known Carlene for 40 years, she was always exuberant, fair, and a genuinely pleasant person! Heartfelt sympathy and love to family!

PENDER Humane Society lost a dear friend and supporter with the passing of Carlene Swartz. Carlene and her husband Mike, owners of Island Appliance of Wilmington, were supporters of our no-kill shelter from the day the Shelter was opened in Burgaw over 15 years ago. We will miss her cheerful ways and big heart. Our prayers go out to her family.

Carlene was a an amazing lady. She taught me a lot over my years of knowing her. Her kindness and understanding knew know boundaries and I am forever grateful for her. I love you Carlene thank you for loving me.
