Not sure what to say?

News sometimes travels slowly and I am saddened to hear about the loss of not only my favorite professor at Michigan, but one of the best men that I have ever met in my life.

Professor Griffin took many of us in the BBA Class of 1994 under his wing and "showed" us the way. He mentored us, he dined with us, he provided sage advice, he made us laugh, he pushed us and he made us want to be like him.

The three years I was in his classes will always be a great memory to me and...

Carl the beloved is gone and God's goodness prevails. Nancy and I and family just found out about losing the truest brother in Christ you are allowed in this life. He was the anchor of our fellowship at St. James Episcopal church in Dexter. He lived, behaved and fellowshipped like a disciple, except .. he's an accountant, professor and poet. Our times together at St. James blossomed as he adopted our younger families and passed on wisdom and humor and affection for life. .. especially humor....

Mary Lou and Family,
I met Carleton at Siena Heights where he served with such generosity and distinction on the Board of Trustees. Jean and Gay Baker also introduced me to him personally. Subsequently, Elizabeth Neidhardt enjoyed having you and Carleton to lunch at the Beach House, seeing your home in Northport, sharing Northport stories, and meeting at times at Ayse's here in Ann Arbor.
Please know of my deep sympathy at your loss.
Sincerely,
Bernadette Pelland

I only knew Carl for the last 6 years or so and was blessed by knowing him for that short time. I think he loved everyone he met! I was always tickled that he took such a liking to our daughters, Clare and Molly.
May he rest in peace in the arms of Christ.

I only knew Carl a few months, but he was immensely supportive of my efforts to promote my biography of Law Quad donor William W. Cook. We met a couple of times and discussed everything from his accounting career and development work to books. He was vigorous beyond belief and courteous. A loss to our community.. My deepest sympathy on the loss of this kind, intelligent and generous man. Carl served on the Board of Trustees of Siena Heights University for many years, and contributed to the institution with great wisdom and generosity. I was always so impressed by his thoughtfulness and insight and had great respect for him. I know he will surely be missed.

Very grateful to have known Carl and for the opportunity to visit with him at the retired partner meeting earlier this fall. I will ALWAYS remember his kindness. Our heartfelt condolences from the Deloitte Foundation team.

I only knew Carl for a few years as he and I joined the Ann Arbor Rotary club as part of the 2010 class. In this short time it became obvious that Carl was indeed as reflected in the notes below a kind and humble man. He was so friendly and approachable and always with a dose of humor. It is a difficult time for the family but they can be so proud of Carl and his many accomplishments.

I had the great pleasure of working with Professor Griffin for several years at the Ross School of Business. He became a very dear friend to me and I will treasure that friendship forever. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this very difficult time. Professor Griffin will be missed dearly.
