Carlos Fonseca, 69, of Lorain left this world Sunday, July 10, 2016 from New Life Hospice, Lorain, Ohio to march in formation with the angels.
He was born December 2, 1946 in Caguas, Puerto Rico before moving to Lebanon, Pennsylvania and then settling in Lorain. He also lived for many years in Cleveland. He attended Lorain City Schools and Cleveland City Schools. Carlos served in the US Army with the 173rd Airborne Division in Vietnam from 1966 through 1968. He suffered from the effects of Agent Orange. He received two Purple Hearts while faithfully serving our country. He worked at the U.S. Steel Corp., Ford Motor Co., and Hinckley Hills Golf Course, Hinckley. He was an advocate for veterans and having them receive proper medical treatment, and ensuring their dignity, for PTSD, and assisting veterans with addiction issues. Carlos was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, friend and caregiver till the end, Nilda Arroyo; his children who were his life, sons Carlos II of Ft. Hood, Texas and Pascual of Lorain; daughters Alena and Belen of Ashtabula; grandchildren Nadia, Carlos III, Lorenzo and Sophia; sister Maria Luisa of Cambridge, and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by those who helped care for him during his illness, Devonia, Kathy, Evelyn, and mostly by his niece Alisa Prospero, who made him laugh and attended to him no matter what time of night.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Juana Fonseca, sisters Irma, Juanita, Aurea, Joann and Carmen; brothers Isidoro, Johnny, Angel and two that died in infancy.
His family will receive friends Thursday, July 14 from 4 to 8 pm at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Friends may also call Friday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in the Sacred heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, pastor will be celebrant. His burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct Military Honors.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Carlos! You are missed. Especially when I would visit and you would offer me coffee, because you knew how much I liked coffee. Trying to look out for your kids as best that I can. Know how much you loved them. Until we meet again.

Carlos will be missed deeply. A good man. He often made me laugh when we were at Juanita's. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless you. Nilda was and has always been a great person, mother, and a good wife. I love you guys.
