A light went out Sunday 4/15/18, when Carlos Lyra, beloved husband to Pam Hodgdon Lyra left our world and joined the world of spirit.
Carlos is survived by his parents Maria Virginia and Josue, and sister Juliana, all of who live in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is also survived by his sister Ida, her husband Heber and their daughter Anna who live in London, England.
Carlos was born April 21, 1972 in Belo Horizonte Brazil, and lived there until his family moved to Sao Paulo when he was still a boy.  He studied mechanical engineering in college, and was given the opportunity to learn english while studying for his masters in Campbellsville Kentucky in the early 90s.
He met Pam Hodgdon, who was raised in Gilroy, while in the US on business in 2008.  Pam and Carlos married in 2009, and made their home in San Jose.  In 2013, they moved to San Martin after adding 2 english bulldogs and 3 cats to their household.  Carlos worked at Cabrillo College as a software developer in their IT department. His team and those he supported at Cabrillo both respected and thoroughly enjoyed working with him.
To everyone who knew Carlos, they loved his humor, caring, kindness, patience, and willingness to help.  To those who knew him best,  he was a unique combination of quirky and funny, kind and loving, caring and always ready for adventure.  And yet, Carlos would not be Carlos if we didn't talk music, which was his passion. He saw U2 in concert three times last year, and planned to see them 3 more this year. He came home from seeing them last year singing at the top of his lungs, talking excitedly about all of the cool new friends (and fellow U2 fanatics) he had met.  He had planned to see some of them again this year while in San Jose and Philadelphia seeing U2 during their latest tour. Carlos and Pam saw James Taylor, Kenny Chesney, Yes, TransSiberian Orchestra, James McCarthy (Paul's son) and many, many others in concert through their marriage. He loved his Rosie and his Magoo (their bulldogs), and of course Dog, (the cat).  Mostly, he loved Pam.  Whether at home hanging out, checking out a new restaurant, or surfing the net poolside while in Maui, Carlos was most happy when he and Pam were together.
While we will miss him terribly, we rejoice in the knowledge that he is at peace, pain-free and able to breathe easily.  Godspeed Carlos... until we meet again!
