A Final Act of Kindness
hree years ago, after Carlos Segarra's only son decided to marry, Mr. Segarra and his wife, Antonia, decided to sell their home of 24 years in Brooklyn and get a bigger one so their son, his new wife and even the wife's mother could move in. "We had never been separated," said Antonia Segarra, who had been married to him for 31 years. "We were always such a united family."

For most of Sept, 11, Mrs. Segarra waited in front of the two-family house in Dyker Heights in Brooklyn for her husband to come home.

Mr. Segarra, 54, a supervisor at Wachovia/First Union on the 46th floor of 2 World Trade Center, had called his son, Juan Carlos, and told him he was on his way out of the building. The family later found out he had been delayed helping an asthmatic colleague and that the two had made it down to the lobby before the building collapsed. "His final actions sum it all up," Juan Carlos Segarra, a 28-year-old accountant in Manhattan, said. "He was very kind."

Mr. Segarra loved the romantic ballads of Latin trios and spent many weekends taping Spanish-language radio shows that featured classics by groups like Trio Los Panchos from Mexico. He left his wife with dozens of the recorded cassettes, but she said she had yet to listen to a single one.

"I can't play them," she said.

Not sure what to say?

I only knew one man from that tragedy. Apart from being family, he was a great man. When I judge him, I think of the pain of the other three thousand families who suffered the same. But in this particular case, the world lost a righteous man. In memory of: Carlos Segarra Cabán

Carlos was my co worker, mi panita in Manny Hanny/Chemical Bank/Chase @ 4NY Plaza in the late 1990's. We shared a great love for our beautiful island, Puerto Rico. He made a trip to the island and brought me a souvenir that, to this date, hangs proudly in my home with the profile picture in this site that I got from the Daily News after victims names were announced. At the time, we also shared the same last name, but there was no relation with my ex husband. He always had a kind word and...

Rest in Peace, Mr. Segarra.

Another year and you are still thought of with friendship and respect. You were a good man Carlos, a good mentor and a good friend. You are thought of whenever I hear or see anything 9-11 related, or reflect on my time at Chase. God Bless you my friend, and God Bless the Segarra Family. You are all in my prayers today.

To the Segarra family, I am sorry for your loss. I meet Carlos while working in the Network Computer Room in the 4B basement of 1 Chase Plaza some years ago. I remember Carlos as a kind, soft spoken trusted professional team leader in his department. May peace and blessings be upon him forever.

My thoughts and prayers are with Carlos and his family. I know I don't have to tell you he was a good man, as you already know. Just know that his goodness touched so many others and he is remembered for the good that he did in life. God Bless you all, God Bless Carlos, and God Bless America.

A yellow rose for my uncle, his favorite flower !! We will always remember you !!!

To the family of Carlos
I worked with Carlos's brother Elpidio who was the Executive Chef at the Downtown Athletic Club. We were together on 9/11 and he was extremely upset and worried about his brother. I am very sorry for your loss.
