We often think of Carl at UMMHC and with the consultants to the UMMHC Self Insurance Program. Just recently in May 2019, many of us were visiting London (one of his favorite towns!), and talked about his love of the insurance industry and Lloyds. He appreciated fully the history in London, the friends and colleagues he made over the years, and the St. James area of the city. He is missed by many. Rest easy Dr. Akins.

Dr. Akins cared for both my daughter and son over the past few years. Both got to see him on more than one occasion unfortunately, but I am so delighted to have ever met him. With each new injury it was always a pleasure to know that they would be taken care of by one of the best. Dr. Akins (my kids called him "Dr. Akinback") cared for all three of my children, our oldest from birth and the other two during their difficult pre-teen years... His caring and support help us survive those difficult times.

Dr. Akins cared for both of my children on numerous occasions over the last 8-10 years. He was a thorough, caring, witty doctor who always found a way to connect with his patients. He had a definite "soft spot" for my daughter and at one of her last visits with him he had a hard time holding back his grin as he told her she had some of the worst looking feet he had ever seen. Dr. Atkins was a devoted & caring physician. I had the pleasure of referring patients to him for orthopedics issues while I worked at UMass in Cardiology. His kind, gentle spirit will be missed. He was well-loved by his patients and orthopedic staff.
