Not sure what to say?

I once called him at his home in Sarasota about something, I don't remember exactly what, having met him only once years before casually, and he was not at all surprised or arrogant or standoffish. He asked me questions, and acted for all the world as if I were an important associate and that he had nothing better to do than to speak with me at some length on the phone. Now at this time, he was already long since retired from the board at Selby and most other professional engagements, and...

Carl, Rosa & Family,
Our condolences to you and your family with the passing of your Dad. May your memories bring you comfort.
Wes & Kathy Shumway

Dr. Luer literally saved my life as youngster in the 1950's, when he performed a successful emergency appendectomy on me at SMH. He has my eternal gratitude. Thank you! Rusty H.

Sending sincere prayers and sympathies to the family, especially Carl, Rosa and family. I'll pass on what someone sent to me, "Grief never ends but it changes. It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faithIt is the price of love."

A modest, unassuming genius. As a non-scientist/botanist, I was in awe of his beautifully, detailed illustrations. My heart goes out to Dr. Luer's wife and family, especially my good friends Carl and Rosa. A true loss to the world of botany and to the Luer family and friends.

Dr. Luer was a very dedicated Orchid Botanist and fine Mentor. I know Nina, and Harry Luther were very fond of him. God Save Selby Gardens and keep it a Research Center as it was meant to exist into the future. Arnold Powers

A gentle generous soul who despite his tremendous talent as a surgeon and after a period of illness and rehab chose to leave this profession in order to elucidate all of us into the world of the orchid. I was fortunate enough to work him in the operating room during the early 60s He was superior in every way...My sincerest sympathies to his family especially to Carl Jr.
