Carmela M. (D’Amico) Gagliardi, of Hampton, New Hampshire and formerly of Somerville passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and devotion of her family on August 31, 2023, she was 98. Lovingly known by many as Mary, she was born in Messina, Italy the only daughter of Rosaria (Barresi) and Natale A. D’Amico. She came to the US in 1941, settling in Boston and Somerville. In earlier years she worked as a stitcher in the garment district and then took a job with the Central Hospital in Somerville as healthcare worker. For over 30 years she enjoyed taking care of patients and making many lasting friendships with her coworkers. She enjoyed hosting family and friends for visits at the beach in Hampton, but above all time spent with those she loved. She will be lovingly remembered for her feisty spirit and her love and devotion shown to her family.
 
Married at St. Augustine Parish in South Boston, she was the beloved wife of the late Carmen Gagliardi. Devoted mother of John Gagliardi, Sr. and his wife Beth Babb and her son Travis of Leominster, Rosina “Rose” Gagliardi, Rosaria “Sarina” Oliphant and her husband Douglas all of Hampton, NH and the late Angelo Gagliardi. Cherished Grandmother of John Gagliardi, Jr. and his wife Marisol Caban, Carmen Gagliardi and his wife Heather and great-grandmother of Gianna, Brianna and Lilianna. Dear sister of Vito D’Amico and his wife Delia and the late Andrew D’Amico and his wife Dorothy. Sister-in-law of the late Frances Gagliardi. Also survived by all her loving nieces and nephews.
 
Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Tuesday morning, September 5th from 9AM -11AM. Followed by a Procession to St. Ann Church for a Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:30AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.


Services will conclude with entombment at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. 


Mary’s family is especially grateful to the Rockingham Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Care for the loving care shown to Mary. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 5 Alumni Drive Exeter, New Hampshire 03833.
