Carmella “Mae” Curro (née Forge), 95, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 3, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born on October 14, 1930, in Pittston, Pennsylvania, to Caroline and Joseph Forge, Mae went on to build a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and service. She received her nursing degree from The New York Foundling in 1949 and went on to serve as a registered nurse, a profession that reflected her lifelong compassion and dedication to others. She married her beloved husband, Thomas Curro, and together they raised their family in Buffalo, New York, before later settling in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. In her later years, she resided in Ocean County, New Jersey, where she cherished her role as a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.
A woman of deep faith, Mae volunteered extensively through her church as a CCD teacher and as a member of the Rosary Altar Society. Her love for her faith was evident in her kindness and generosity, which she extended to everyone she met.
Mae was the matriarch of her family — a steady presence whose love and guidance shaped generations. She played an instrumental role in raising her grandchildren and was known for the warmth, discipline, and devotion she brought to family life. She found joy in cooking and was especially famous for her Italian sauce, breaded eggplant, stuffed artichokes, and marinated olives — dishes that will forever be part of family traditions. She carried herself with elegance and flair throughout her life, never losing her love for fashion, fabulous shoes, and bold statement jewelry.
Mae will be remembered for her beauty, strength, faith, and the immeasurable love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she nurtured and the traditions she so lovingly created.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Gayle M. Semprevivo and her husband Charles of Toms River, New Jersey; her son, John J. Curro of Maple Shade, New Jersey; her cherished grandchildren, Carey Semprevivo, Kristina Weiss, Thomas Semprevivo, and Joe Curro; and her adored great-grandchildren, Noelle, Lucia, and Gavin.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic’s Church in Brick, NJ on Friday, January 9th at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Locustwood Memorial Park, 1500 Marlton Pike,Cherry Hill, NJ. Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, NJ.
