Carmen T. Bergeron
lived in Windham, NH, and Lowell, nurse; 83

BOW, NH -- Carmen T. Bergeron, beloved wife of the late Harvey E. Bergeron, died after a lengthy illness on May 11, 2010 at the Hospice House, Concord, NH. She was a resident of Bow, NH.

Carmen was born on May 23, 1926, in Lowell, MA to the late Grace (Williams) Devno and George A. Devno and lived her early years in Georgetown, CT, attending elementary school there. As a teenager, she returned to Lowell, MA with her parents where she graduated from Lowell High and Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, in Lowell, MA. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1946. On September 29, 1946 she and Harvey married, eventually having six children, whom they proudly raised on their family farm in Windham, NH.

While Carmen's first priorities in life were always her husband and family, she valued education, seeking to advance her learning and remain current in her profession. During the time she was working and raising her family, she continued her education and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from New England College in Henniker, NH.

Much of her career was spent as a School Nurse and wellness educator at Windham Center School in Windham, NH. She was a staff nurse and Obstetrical Educator at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Lowell, MA. She was especially proud of her published work in the Geriatric Journal of Nursing. Carmen also served on the executive committee of the Derry Visiting Nurses Association and the New Hampshire School Nurses Committee. Upon retiring, she and Harvey split their time between their homes in Stuart, Florida and New Hampshire. Each spring they looked forward to returning "north" to spend time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During her retirement, Carmen enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading for education and enjoyment, and sharing family time with her large family.

Carmen was predeceased by her husband, Harvey; and a brother, James Devno.

She leaves behind six children, Harvey Edmund Bergeron, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of North Conway, NH, Douglas Kevin Bergeron and his wife, Patricia of Colorado Springs, CO, Marsha Bergeron Gillaspie and her husband, Richard of Derry, NH, Pamela Bergeron Neville and her husband, Timothy of Bow, NH, Laurel Bergeron White and her husband, Carlton of Middleborough, MA, and Shawn Geoffrey Bergeron, and his wife, Linda of Madison, NH. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; as well as a brother-in-law, Richard Bergeron; sister-in-law Esther Allen; and many nieces and nephews.

BERGERON -- Calling hours will be held on Friday May 14, 2010 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 South Main Street, Concord, NH. Burial will follow at the Cemetery on the Plains, Windham, NH.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Pam, Brenda just phoned that Carmen passed away May 11th Carmen was my friend and neighbor for 28 winters in Florida. Harvey and Wayne would walk nightly while Carmen and I swam or bicycled. After, the four of us would have refreshments-tea and cookies. When they summered in N.conway we would get together. She was a good friend and is much missed. Sending love to all her family. Ginny from S.L.F. and Moultonboro, N.H.

We were blessed to know Carmen even if it was for a short time. We loved seeing her in the neighborhood. She will be missed.

Anna and Jim Groenewal and Family (formerly of Primrose Lane in Penacook)

Please accept my deepest sympathies.

We remember Carmen so fondly from our teaching years in Windham. Some people stand because of their kindness and caring. Carmen was definitely one of those people. May her memory be eternal.
We are presently visiting our daughter in Germany, but our thoughts and prayers will be with you during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy, George and Joan Tsoukalas

Dear Pam,
My sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. Take comfort in knowing that she's with Harvey again. He must be happier then he's been since the last time he summited Mt. Washington! Your Mom was a truly amazing woman. Strong and loving and nurturing are a few words that come to mind. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Sincerely, Rick

I have so many fun memories of working with Carmen while I was doing the dental clinics at school. She was a fun person to be with.
Friday will be difficult to travel north. I am planning to be at the Cemetery on the Plains when Carmen and the family arrive on Saturday.
All of the Bergeron family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Barbara and Ron Coish

Offering our deepest condolences at this difficult time.
