Abbott Funeral Home - Delphi Obituary

Carol Miriam Yerkes Briggs, age 94, of Delphi passed at the home of her daughter, Linda, in New Market, MD on May 6, 2022, with all three of her children at her side.  Carol was born on August 8, 1927, to Leonard and Thelma (Bowman) Yerkes in Delphi.   She married Mark C. Briggs on October 18th, 1947, who preceded her in death on September 10, 1975.

Carol was the most amazing mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Her life was all about God, family, and kindness.  She was a stay-at-home mom until Mark’s death, then worked 12 years at the Camden Elementary School.   Carol was an active member and Sunday School teacher at the Camden Baptist Church until she moved to Maryland. She sat through countless sporting events watching her grandchildren and loved cheering on her Purdue Men’s Basketball team.

Carol is survived by three children, Jan (John) Sieber, Steve (Susan) Briggs and Linda Hlebasko; eight grandchildren, Mark (Christi) Sieber, Jeff (Samantha) Sieber, Tara (Christopher) Sieber, Tim Butler, Derek Butler, Daniel (Lynae) Butler, Matthew (Melanie) Hlebasko and Elizabeth (Scott) Peterson; 14 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Carol was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Joan (Bob) Ringer.

The family would like to thank Frederick Health Hospice of Maryland, their personnel who kindly cared for Carol. The family would also like to thank Iris Kwaloff (caregiver and friend) and Roxie Smith who treated her like family and provided endless support during her last few days.

Visitation will be Thursday from 11am until her Celebration of Life funeral service at 1pm, at the Delphi Presbyterian Church, Pastor Carrie Munson officiating. Burial will be at Camden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Camden Baptist Food Pantry in Camden, Indiana, Frederick Health Hospice in Frederick, Maryland, www.frederickhealthhospice.org , or the New Market United Methodist Church at [email protected]. Not sure what to say?

You are in my thoughts & prayers. I always enjoyed your mother.

Jan, Steve, Linda and families...Our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Your mom was always so kind and welcoming anytime I visited your home during my high school years. Her gentle smile was an added bonus to anyone who had the pleasure to be around her. God definitely gained a beautiful angel with her entrance into Heaven.
Matt, Marcia (Abbott) Eppers and family
