Carol Winburn Ellis, 75, passed away peacefully on March 5th surrounded by her family members. Carol was the loving wife of Dr. Michael Ellis with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Carol was born in Philadelphia to the late George Randolph Winburn and Peggy Winburn McCoy (Erisman). She spent her early years in the Jackson Heights section of Brooklyn along with her twin sister Nancy and brother Rand. In 1961 Carol moved back to the Philadelphia area with her family and her formative years were spent attending Radnor High School. After meeting Michael on a blind date while a senior in high school, their short courtship led them to their elopement in 1965. With great love for one another, they quickly started a family. If you had the pleasure to know Carol, then you know one of her greatest enjoyments in life was being a loving mother. She was a constant presence for her children and also took great pride in her volunteer efforts in both the Junior Women's Auxiliaries Board and Questers Group at Abington Hospital while the children were growing up. In 1999 Carol was blessed with her first of 4 grandchildren and she took great joy in becoming Mimi. Carol and Michael welcomed their grandchildren to their vacation home in Florida for many years and shared great memories together. In recent years, Carol looked forward to spending quality individual time with each of them and watching them grow into young adults. Above all, Carol will be remembered by her strength and grace as she battled cancer for many years. Never complaining, just fighting. She touched so many lives in a positive way and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her husband and siblings, Carol is survived by her children, Dr. Jeffrey Ellis, David Ellis, daughter Susan McGoldrick and her husband Jim; her grandchildren Andrew, Caelan, Molly and Jace. Carol is also survived by extended family and many friends. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service scheduled for Saturday March 12th at the Wayside Chapel at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Horsham at 11:00 am. In Lieu of flowers contributions, in Carol's memory may be made to Dr. Mark Shahin's Gyn Oncology Clinical Trials/Jefferson-Abington Health. Carol, twin sister Nancy and brother Randy were classmates at W C Bryant HS in Queens NY. I ran track with Randy and dated Nancy for a short time.
Carol was always the “adult in the group” keeping us from making regrettable decisions.
Family left for PA soon after our junior year. We visited their new home in Radnor, home had the first private indoor pool I had ever seen.
Glad to read that Carol had such a fruitful life.

I always admired my aunt Carol. She was beautiful, an amazing conversationalist, stylish and warm. I admired her loyalty to our grandmother, her mom and I always loved her honesty! She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Her kitchen could be in House Beautiful and I loved her taste in French country furniture and Decor. I will never forget all of the welcoming roosters throughout her kitchen!
More than that, after my grandmother passed, she saved me some special...

Dear Michael and family,
We are more than incredibly saddened about Carol's passing and about the incredible suffering she endured over the last months and even years. I know you have suffered much also helping her deal with these illnesses, surgeries, procedures etc. etc.
We are very fortunate to have known Carol thanks to our trip to the Canadian Rockies and our subsequent wonderful monthly dinners and lunches and visits to each other’s homes and Longboat Key, FL and...
