I Dean Hawkes was a trailblazer who opened doors for women administrators of my generation. I admired her joie de vivre and commitment to students. Hers was a life of service that will continue to inspire. Rest easy, Dean Hawkes, and thank you

For many years, Carol was an iconic figure here at WCSU, and her legacy is strong in those who had the pleasure of knowing and working with her. She never missed an opportunity to encourage students and colleagues to venture outside of their comfort zones or to take on roles they'd perhaps never imagined. She was a mentor to many, and had a special interest in seeing women succeed. She has been missed since her retirement, but will live on in those who remember and hope to carry on using...

Carol was a wonderful colleague, a superb academic and a committed educator. She had an exceptionally long life and filled it with honor and dedication to teaching and learning.. The University can be proud of her long service and her dedication to excellence. I share that pride!

From crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary to teaching Richard Nixon's daughters to providing strong, intelligent leadership at several universities, Carol Hawkes lived a full, rewarding and productive life. It was a pleasure and honor to be her colleague at WCSU. They don't make them like that any more! RIP good friend! Jim Schmotter, Ithaca, NY
