Carol Mack

Carol A. Mack, 84, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away with family by her side on August 19, 2024. Carol lived a life filled with faith, love, and family.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Carol Ann Mack, daughter of Joe and Clara Kolbeck, was born on April 7, 1940, in Salem, SD.  She was the ninth of eleven children.  She graduated in 1958 from St. Mary’s Catholic High School of Salem.  After high school, Carol moved to Sioux Falls to work at Western Surety while living in a one-bedroom apartment with several of her lifelong friends.

She moved to Los Angeles, California in 1963 where she met the love of her life, Andy Mack.  They were united in marriage on November 28, 1964, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem, SD.  Shortly after, they returned to Sioux Falls to raise a loving family.  Carol was strongly devoted to her husband, her five children, and her Catholic faith.

While her children were growing up, Carol was an active member of the St. Mary Altar Society and would often volunteer for church lunches and events.  She cherished her many lifelong friendships as part of the Red Hat Society.  Carol enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, time at the lake, and traveling. Her most cherished moments were with family, especially her grandchildren; they would enjoy a sweet treat, share laughter, and feel her unconditional love.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five children and their spouses, Tina (Dean) Brush, Overland Park, KS, Lisa (Carlos) Cruz, Aurora, IL, Jim (Lexa) Mack, Grand Rapids, MN, Paula (John) Lubeck, and Luke (Erin) Mack, Sioux Falls, SD; and her eleven grandchildren, Trevor Brush, Ashley Mack-Cruz, Clara Mack, Adeline Mack, Emma Lubeck, Elizabeth Lubeck, Elaina Lubeck, Edward Lubeck, Hudson Mack, Boston Mack, and Crosby Mack. 

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Andy, who she is now joyfully reunited with in Heaven, along with her parents, her five brothers, Ervin, Rich, Walt, Ray, Joe, and her sister, Dorothy (Helma).  As well as her brothers-in-law, Jack (Sherwood), Jim (Helma), and sisters-in-law, Carol (Kolbeck), Jean (Kolbeck), and Squeak (Kolbeck). Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them. 

Carol is also survived by her sisters, Ardella Sherwood and Sr. Marita Kolbeck; her brothers and sisters-in law, Jim (Myra) Kolbeck and Ken (Diane) Kolbeck; and her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Church, at 2109 S. 5th Ave., Sioux Falls, SD on Friday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday August 22nd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a wake service and rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carol’s memory to South Dakota Alzheimer’s Association.
