MOORHEAD, Carol Chalk, 80, passed away in her sleep on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at her home in The Towers Retirement Community in Richmond, Va. Mrs. Moorhead was born on September 11, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles Hubert Chalk and Virginia Wanzer Chalk. She spent her childhood near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated with a B.A. in Education from Penn State University in 1951. Mrs. Moorhead was a resident of Lexington, Virginia from 1954-1990 where she raised her four children, ran a preschool out of her home and enjoyed a long career at Waddell Elementary School as a first grade teacher. She was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church and served as a docent at the Stonewall Jackson House during her retirement. After moving to Richmond in 1990, Mrs. Moorhead joined the Southminster Presbyterian Church and volunteered as a reading mentor in local elementary schools. An accomplished swimmer in her youth, she continued to swim regularly until her final years. Her other favorite pastimes were reading novels and socializing with friends.
