My sympathy to Ms. Speir's family on their loss. Ms. Speir was a beloved teacher at Briarwood High School and my STAR teacher. Because of her talent and enthusiasm, I placed out of about two years of college French. She was gifted, and I am among many who are very grateful.

Carol was a bright light for her students, friends, and family. The Beta Nu Chapter of DKG will meet this Thursday for an early supper at Betsy Box's home. All of us will celebrate Carol even as we miss her sweet presence.

Carol Speir was a beloved member of Beta Nu, Delta Kappa Gamma, society for key women educators. She was a wonderful member and worker: she was our Sunshine Coordinator, remembering our birthdays and sending us cards and flowers as needed. She was a professional example in every way possible. Her sweet and spunky spirit as she faced illness was remarkable. I will miss her and grieve, but not "as those who have no hope." Blessings to Mary and the other family members.
