Carol Wasserson Obituary

Carol Ann Paige
Hoover Wasserson
(1932-2016)
Carol Ann Paige Hoover Wasserson, born February 8, 1932, died last Friday night, December 2, 2016. She is survived by her husband, Sam Wasserson, and her two children, Clif Hoover and Cindy Rosenthal; four grandchildren, Julia Hoover, Lindsey Andersen, Ellie Rosenthal, and Amy Rosenthal; and one great grandchild, Kilian Andersen.
Carol was one of the strongest women around. When her first husband died and left her a single mother to two young children at 28, she showed that strength and built a name and a life for herself and her family.
Carol's children, Clif and Cindy, remember their mother affectionately. They remember her on the golf course, around the bridge table, and in the kitchen. They remember her spunk, her vivacity, and her remarkable ability to love those around her.
They remember times she caught them skipping school, or driving the family car without permission and on those days her children learned a lesson early on about their mother: No one messes with Carol Wasserson.
Carol was a force to be reckoned with. She was intelligent, witty, and beautiful. She valued strength, beauty, courage, and honesty and she spent her life instilling these principles in her children.
Carol loved a party like no one else could. She loved gathering around friends and family, sharing meals and memories. Whether acting as the host or a guest, she always had a way of being the life of the party. She loved her vodka martinis, shaken not stirred, with a twist.
She was the embodiment of grace and elegance.
Her four granddaughters remember her for her gentle voice that soothed them to sleep, recounting the magical fairytale adventures of Snow White and Rose Red that she read to them so many times.
Carol and her husband Sam spent an incredible, adventurous, wonderful 51 years together. They worked together, they laughed together, and they raised children together.
Carol and Sam's whirlwind romance was like that of a Katherine Hepburn movie. Sam was her Humphrey Bogart and he gave her the world. Together they left no part of the globe unreached. Partners in business, in life, and in love, Carol and Sam shared a romance and a connection unlike any other.
Today her family cherishes the memories they shared with Carol and the lessons she taught them. Her legacy will live on though the photos, the passport stamps, the recipes, the stories, and the values she held and imparted.
We invite you to join Carol's family as they celebrate her life on Wednesday December 14 at Stone Funeral Home, 355 East 9th Street, Upland, California. Viewing is from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.; Memorial Service 10:00 a.m. Burial is immediately following at Oak Park Cemetery, 410 Sycamore Avenue, Claremont, California. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
To others she was mom, sister, friend, and neighbor, but to me she was and will always be my Meko. Thank you for giving me your height, your blonde hair, your pie recipe, and your love of travel. Thank you for loving me and teaching me strength and courage. Thank you for being my Meko. "Goodnight, Sugar Plum" was how she told me goodnight. We love you and miss you already.
Goodnight Sugar Plum,
All my love, Amy

December 9, 2016

It was 1963 and on my insistence, Sam and I move out of Pomona to an upscale apartment in Montclair. He became part of the Claremont scene which resulted in his meeting Carol. To coin an old phrase, he became "smitten" with this tall, beautiful, statuesque blond. I too was impressed but not just her beauty but rather her warm friendly smile and inner self. It came to pass that a high school classmate of Sam's, who now resided in the Bay area, came to visit us and invited Sam up to San Francisco for the 4th of July holiday. Sam was committed to Carol and her two children and couldn't go. I went in his place and ended up meeting my bride to be. Lois and I were married in March of 1965. Sam and Carol married six months later in November of 1965. Lois a I lived in San Bernardino for two years during which we had many a fun time together with Carol and Sam. Though we moved up north and only saw each other occasionally, we remained bonded in friendship. In a sense, Carol and I were responsible for meeting our mates and our over 50 years of marriage.
