Carol Withrow Obituary

Carol Withrow was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on Aug. 28, 1926. She died at age 94 on Jan. 15, 2021.

Carol was a chaplain's wife, nurse, medical missionary, Sunday school teacher, prayer warrior, teacher at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, story teller, gracious host and friend to all. She was a gerontological and med/surg nurse. Entering her seventh decade of life, Carol embraced her more daring side. She traveled to 13 countries on five continents. Adventures included white water rafting, zip lining, parasailing, hand gliding, dog sledding, bungee jumping, skydiving, an Ice Hotel, five medical mission trips, a cruise to Panama, a NASCAR ride, a covered wagon trip and she visited the Holy Land. Her life touched millions. Her family and friends rest in the assurance that Dad Withrow and Jesus her Lord now have welcomed her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Withrow (1993); a daughter, Elliene Swanson (2005); and a son, Warren H. Withrow (2017).

Survivors include her brother, Lester Weko; six grandchildren, Warren E. Withrow/Melissa, Matthew Withrow/Jazmin, Jenny Swanson, Peter Swanson, Danielle Friars/Rick and Michael Swanson/Daneka; 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Raleigh Bostic officiating. Burial follows in Lebanon National Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday and continues at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was like a Mom to me I still miss her. I have a recipe that she shared with me and every time I make it I think of the many times we shared!

So sad to see this obituary. I was not in contact with Carol for 10 years, but she and Dad were the most precious friends one could have. Her kids may contact me anytime at 817-894-1204.

“Live while you are alive” by
Ben Okri. Carol definitely fulfilled this quote. I was blessed to have her as my lab instructor while in nursing school 30 years ago. I loved hearing of her many adventures, one of my favorites was her trip to the ice hotel. She always had a hug, and a story to tell when I would see her around town. I offer my deepest sympathy and love to her family and friends, she will be missed.

Carol was a nursing student of mine and I loved her enthusiasm and compassionate care she give her patients. I also had the privilege of working with her after she joined the faculty at ECC and was such an asset to the nursing program. We always had fun and laughter when Carol was around!! She had her wings a long time ago but now they have carried her to her Lord!!

She was one of my instructors in nursing school at ECTC over 30 yrs ago. It is because of her that I went on to have a successful and meaningful career in the field of nursing and healthcare. She was an inspiration and mentor to so many people offering unconditional love, acceptance and encouragement to all. May God bless you in this time of sorry and grief. Just know that her legacy lives on.

She worked at Gates in the absence of our nurse. She was an awesome and special lady.

Grandchildren, your grandparents introduced themselves to me as Mom and Dad when I served with them in the Army. I saw Mom as Beth Moore, Wonder Women, and Danica Patrick rolled into one. Every time we ran into her, she would tell us about her latest adventure. I share with you a verse read at my Mother's funeral that has meant much to me in the 49 years she's been gone. Romans 8:18 LUV U reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glories that shall be revealed in us. Enjoy the memories!!!
