Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. - Slidell Obituary

Carole Prince Bright Trout, 76, of Slidell, Louisiana was called home by her Lord on April 16, 2018.  She was surrounded by her loving husband, her five doting children and her sister, who was also her best friend.

Carole was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on November 10, 1941, the first of seven girls. Growing up, she spent most of her childhood between North Carolina and West Virginia.  As a child, she loved reading books, riding her bike, playing the saxophone, and spending time with her sisters. Upon graduation from Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, W.Va., and attending Fairmont College, she moved to Washington D.C., worked for the I.R.S., and met the love of her life, Frederick Trout, her husband of 53 years.

Carole spent the next 28 years of her life as a supportive Marine Corps wife and loving mother to their five children.  A tour in Vietnam, year-long deployments, and multiple moves across the country are just a few challenges they faced together. During these times, Carole relied greatly on her faith as she often had to assume the role of both mother and father. Carole’s strength and devotion created a close-knit family with an unwavering bond.

After military life, she and her husband settled in Slidell, LA in the summer of 1998.  Carole was a member of Slidell First United Methodist Church for over 18 years where she supported charitable causes as member of the XYZ, The Sunshine Committee and The United Methodist Women Group. She will be remembered for her faith, generosity, kindness, devotion to her family, love of animals, and her willingness to open her home to anyone who needed a place to stay or a meal to eat.

Carole was proceeded in death by her mother Marjorie Mitchell, her step-father Leon C. Mitchell, her father, Harry G. Bright and step-mother Elizabeth Bright. Her sister Susan Goodwin, her son-in law Cliff Dyer, her grandson Noah Garrett and her nephew Hamilton Nobles.  She is survived by her husband Frederick Trout, her children, Robin Dyer of Nashville, TN., Brian and Sheila Trout of Naperville, IL., Dawn and Chris Phelps of New Smyrna Beach, FL., Rebecca and Jeff Stanfield of Clayton, NC., Emily Trout and fiancé Jesse Byrd of Slidell, LA., her sisters, Harriett and Ken Sharp of Goochland, VA., Emily and John Nobles of Morehead City, NC., Anne and Dale Warner of Kinston, NC., Kathy and Jim Hutcheson of Rocky Mount, NC., and Mary Margaret and Julian Brantley of Rocky Mount, NC, her seventeen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Carole’s life will be held on Friday April 20, 2018 at 11:00am at The First United Methodist Church of Slidell located at 433 Erlanger Dr., Slidell, LA 70458.

Carole’s family would like to thank Canon Hospice for their care and support. A special thank you to her nurse, Jennifer Bartholomew, for her friendship, guidance, and love not only to Carole but to her husband and her children during this time of transition.
