Obituary

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada is saddened to announce the peaceful death of their dear Sister Caroline Martz in the care centre at the Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 485 Windermere Road in London on August 21, 2020.

Caroline Gertrude Martz was born on June 20, 1933 in Heisler, Alberta and joined the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph on August 25, 1955.

She is remembered with affection by all her CSJ Sisters, as well as her sisters Catherine (Don Kuefler), Josephine (Eddie Volk), Mary Anne Martz, Geraldine (Arnold Volk) and sister-in-law Marlene Martz.

She was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Mary Martz, five infant siblings, brothers Leo (Denise), Wilfred (Kay), Edmund (Mabel), Sylvester, Victor and Gerald.

Sister Caroline, known earlier as Sister St. David, excelled in making a comfortable home for our Sisters and all those she served in London at Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, Fontbonne Hall, St. Peter's Seminary and Marian Villa and then in Windsor, at St Joseph's Manor. In 1977 she returned to her beloved west and gave invaluable service in general housekeeping and maintenance at St. Joseph's Regional House in Edmonton for 33 years.

Upon her return east, Caroline participated in the Galilee Renewal Program in Arnprior and was a faithful volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospitality Centre where she is remembered for her wry sense of humor and down to earth practicality and realism.

We thank God for Sister Caroline's presence among us and for the compassionate care provided to her by our care centre staff.

Due to the current pandemic, there will be no public services. Live streaming of the service can be viewed on Tuesday, August 25, 10:30 a.m. online at: https://www.twitch.tv/ofh_london

A private burial service will be held, with a memorial Mass and a celebration of her life to be scheduled at a later date.

Not sure what to say?

I remember Caroline fondly, from my time living with her at Mount St. Joseph in early 2000. Being I was new at The Mount, Caroline checked with me daily to see that I had everything I needed. I was very grateful for her kindness to me. My sympathies to her Family. May you rest in peace, dear lady.

To MaryAnne, Geraldine & Arnold & all of the Martz family.
Our sincere condolences. I am so glad I had the pleasure of
Meeting Caroline, I do remember her sense of humour.

Our sincere condolences to Martz family. Bob & Henriette Gabourie

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the sisters and staff who took such good care of our Sr Caroline. We will miss our visits with her and all the sisters. We know Mom and Dad and our brothers were there to welcome her home. It was great to be able to talk to her every day up until she peacefully slipped away.

Our condolences to the community of St Joseph on the loss of Sr Caroline. She was a lovely soul and we will remember her for her wit and dry sense of humour, and for her love of the Edm Eskimos! We will miss our visits with Aunt Caroline on our trips east. God Bless and Rest In Peace.

To The Martz Family,
Expressing Deepest Sympathy for the Loss of your beloved Sister
Caroline, May She Rest In Peace , in God Continued Care.
Blessings
