Caroline Sargent Obituary

August 8, 1928 - December 17, 2016
Caroline Fowler Sargent was born August 8, 1928 and passed peacefully to our Lord Jesus Christ on December 17, 2016.

Caroline graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in Selma, Alabama in 1946. One year later she married Jack Scott Sargent of San Antonio, Texas, then a Captain in the United States Air Force. And so began a lifelong adventure that lasted until his passing, forty one years later. Their travels took them to Europe, North America, and Asia. Retiring as a Colonel, her husband recognized Caroline as a significant participant in his successful military career.

Always the consummate party giver, Caroline was selected by her peers to receive the First Lady of Nationalist China, Madam Chiang Kai-shek, at a United States Embassy reception. Caroline had a smile that would "light up a room" and displayed it in every picture ever taken of her. Caroline enjoyed her friends and maintained lifelong relationships made during her career as a military officer's wife. She loved living and was fiercely loyal to those she loved.

Caroline was a Master bridge player, an avocation she enjoyed and excelled at all her life. She was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and watched every second of every game regardless of score or record.

She was most proud of her family and was the mother of two children, the late Cami Yates and Jack Scott Sargent, Jr. She also had five grandchildren, Candice Marshall, Robert Steven Kortkamp, Jack Kortkamp, Brian Scott Sargent, and Caroline Sargent Ruez. She held a special and close relationship with her sister Anne Crowl of Cocoa Beach, Florida even though often geographically separated. Later in life, Caroline married Martin G. Groseclose of Seattle, Washington. They enjoyed each other for fifteen years before his passing in 2015.

Caroline loved deeply. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed.

Graveside services will be held Dec.23, 2016 at FT Sam Houston National Cemetery at 9:30am with a memorial service to follow at Army Residence Chapel at 11:30am. Please sign guest book at www.colonialuniversal.com

I will miss my Nin....I will always remember as a young boy taking all those vacations with the Sargents to Panama City Beach and the great times we had when the Crawls and Sargents would come together for the holidays...so much warmth and loving memories that no words can describe. Though time and distance has made it difficult to stay close physically Nin's love and devotion made this distance seem so irrelevant. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the grand children and a special thought goes out to my cousin Scott who Nin was so very proud of.

With warmest regards
Craig L. Crowl (Caroline's nephew)
