Reiff Funeral Home - Cascade Obituary

Carolyn V. Coates, 85, of Epworth, Iowa, formerly of Zwingle, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Meadows, Luther Manor in Asbury, Iowa.


Friends and relatives of Carolyn may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Peosta, Iowa.  Visitation will also continue from 9 to 10 a.m., on Wednesday, July 3rd at the funeral home.


Services for Carolyn will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Reiff Funeral Home in Peosta, Iowa with Pastor Dianne Grace presiding.  Burial will be held in Dubuque Memorial Gardens in Dubuque, Iowa with flag presentation will be afforded by the Epworth American Legion John White Post #650.


Carolyn was born June 15, 1939, in Lynn, Massachusetts, daughter of Dale and Virginia (Whittaker) Couch.  She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School in Massachusetts.  She was united in marriage on August 6, 1958, to Paul Coates at the Silver Bell Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, NV.


She was a Veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton.  She enjoyed playing cards, and golf.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who truly enjoyed spending time with her family.


Carolyn was a member of the Emmanual of Christ Church in Dubuque, Iowa.


She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul Coates of Epworth; two children, Keith P. (Tamie) Coates of Storm Lake, and Karen J. (Paul) Reuter of Epworth; 8 grandchildren, Jacob Reuter, Chris Reuter, Amanda Coates, Katie Reuter, Jami Brown, Allen Reuter, Brian Reuter, and Steve Reuter; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Russell D. Couch of Santa Barbara, CA; and one brother-in-law, Dale (Joan) Coates of Davenport, IA.


She is preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Katherine Coates in 1965.


The family would like to thank the staff of the Meadows Luther Manor for all the care and concern given to Carolyn.
