LANGDON, Carolyn S.
Carolyn S. Langdon, 100, died peacefully, Thursday, (December 13, 2012) at the Avery Heights Nursing Home in Hartford. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Howard G. Langdon, Sr., also of Avery Heights. She was born in Pittsfield, MA, Aug. 8, 1912 to Addie G. Stafford and Festus J. Stafford. She attended Pittsfield High School and graduated from Middlebury College in 1934. She taught at the Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, from 1934 until 1939 when she married Howard G. Langdon, Sr. She resided with him in Wethersfield, for nearly 20 years, and Glastonbury, CT for over 40 years, before moving to independent living at Avery Heights in 2003. From 1947 to 1953 she was involved in dog obedience training, and trained the first U.D.T. Shetland Sheepdog and first Champion U.D.T. Shetland Sheepdog in the United States. From 1953 to 1973 she was a freelance magazine and newspaper writer, concentrating on the subjects of gardening, dog training, and New England history. She also compiled her own and her husband's family genealogical histories. For 21 years she was Co-Chairperson of the Historical Society of Glastonbury's Antique Booth at their annual fund raising show. In addition she was a member of the 1st Congregational
Church in Wethersfield, and later the 1st Congregational Church of Glastonbury. She is survived by her son, Howard G. Langdon, Jr. and his wife Carol of Williamsburg, VA; two grandsons, Howard G. Langdon, III (Chip) of Centerville, Ohio, and David S. Langdon of Alexandria, Virginia and three great grandchildren.
