It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carroll Gethers, a beloved individual whose vibrant presence left a permanent mark on the lives of many. Carroll departed from this world on March 27, 2024, at the age of 78, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy defined by wisdom, dedication, and athletic prowess. 


Born on March 18, 1946, in Moncks Corner, SC, to Caroline Perry Gethers and Daniel Gethers, Sr., Carroll was the youngest among five children. Regarded as a beacon of positivity and guidance, he was renowned for his infectious laughter, unwavering kindness, and profound insights. His exceptional talents both on and off the court and field were evident from a young age, paving the way for success in various pursuits. As a youth, Carroll became a member of Nazareth Reformed Episcopal Church in Moncks Corner, SC.


During his formative years, Carroll excelled as a star in basketball and football at Berkeley Training High School, garnering accolades as a proud member of the school’s Basketball and Football State Championship teams. His remarkable skills earned him admiration and respect, leaving an enduring legacy in the school’s sporting history.


Upon graduating in 1964, Carroll embarked on a new chapter in New York City. There, he found his niche in the Garment Industry, where his exemplary work ethic and dedication shone brightly throughout his more than 25-year tenure. Recognized for his unwavering commitment, Carroll later secured employment with the City of New York, balancing dual full-time roles for over a decade. Colleagues remember him as a dependable and industrious individual, always willing to offer assistance and go the extra mile.


Beyond his professional accomplishments, Carroll was revered for his sagacious guidance and invaluable life lessons. Possessing a profound understanding of humanity, he dispensed advice with empathy and compassion, uplifting spirits and imparting enduring wisdom to all who sought his counsel.


Carroll’s memory will forever be held dear by his devoted family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration that will resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. His legacy is carried on by his two sons, Demetrius Gethers and Tyrone Attles; his three daughters, Joy Mason, Jacquetta Lee and Nicole Simmons. Additionally, he leaves behind more than 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his brother, Daniel Gethers, sister Odessa Green of Moncks Corner, SC, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.


A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, April 5, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Nazareth Reformed Episcopal Church, 145 West End Drive, Moncks Corner, SC. Burial will be in Old Nazareth Cemetery, Pinopolis, SC. Viewing will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
