STANLEY, Carson Baynard, of Montpelier, Va., went to be with his Lord on February 21, 2011. Surviving Carson are his wife, Betty Lee; sons, Charles (Janie) and Howard; stepson, Chris Conklin (Jaime); grandchildren, Reisa Smith (Bryan), Erin Blunt (Michael) and Patrick; stepgrandchildren, Peyton and Landon; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Kadence, Myles and Max; stepmother, Thelma Stanley; stepsisters, Robin Carroll and Kathy Cowell. Carson was retired from American Tobacco and Philip Morris. He loved sports, especially baseball, which he played for many years, and he also served as a Little League Coach. He was in the U.S. Marines, Special Forces. His true passion was community service. He belonged to four Ruritan Clubs, served as Chesapeake District Governor, and was elected to be on the Ruritan National Board for a term of three years. Carson was a member of the American Legion and a member of Concord Baptist Church. The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, February 23, at the Nelsen Funeral Home Reid Chapel, 412 South Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Thursday, February 24, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Concord Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Concord Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
