CLOSED-Harvey Family Funeral Home Obituary

Born on July 10,1945; passed on May 2, 2020.

He was born to Carter Hart, Jr and Mozelle Hart in Beaumont, Texas.  His father was in the Air Force, so the family had to move often causing Carter Hart III to attend first grade in five different schools.  That did not cause him to get educationally behind.  He was a “A” student at East High School in Wichita, Kansas his senior year, and went on to get a degree in Architecture from Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma.

Before graduation, he married Alberta Lavon Taraba, in his senior year.  This happy marriage lasted almost 54 years in which he and Lavon traveled to 43 different countries. Most of these trips were backpacking through Europe, Southeast Asia, China, Burma, Ecuador, and Peru among other countries. They also served two years in Jamaica in the United States Peace Corps.

Residing in Seattle, Washington since 1969, he called Seattle his home where he worked for several well-known architecture firms.  His favorite position was his last one at Seattle Housing Authority (SHA), as Construction Supervisor for Holly Park, a mixed income property of SHA.

Among his favorite pastimes were sailing, traveling, and bird watching.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mozelle and father, Carter Hart, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Lavon Hart; son, Justin Hart (Golda Hall); granddaughters, Ada and Lea; brothers, James Hart (Sue Van Liew) and Cooper Hart (Karen); sister, Paula Sperbeck (Kris); nieces, Abby and Madeline Hart and Mozelle Sperbeck; and nephew, Riley Sperbeck.

Carter was a kind soul. He was appreciated and loved by his many friends and family.  Carter was a loyal and loving husband and father.  He will be missed by all.

Not sure what to say?

I grew up across the street from the Harts during my adolescence. (1-9 years old)
I came from a single parent home and never knew my dad. Looking back now, growing up, in some ways I was jealous of Justin and I remember thinking that if anything happened to my mom, I would have loved to live with them. That way, I would have Carter as a dad too and would have been fine with that.
