Someone to Lean On
On Sept. 10, with her parents about to return home from a senior citizens' bus outing to Atlantic City, Catherine A. Nardella stopped by their home in Lincoln Park, N.J., to the make sure everything was in order. She knew it was their habit to have a cup of coffee as soon as they got in the door, but the electricity was temporarily out. So she went to a Dunkin' Donuts for a carafe of hot coffee, and had it waiting for them.

That's the way she was about her large Italian-American family. "Cathy always thought of others," said her sister Grace Samek. Another sister, Lavinia Wilson, said Miss Nardella "was the kind of person that just gave and didn't think she was going to get anything in return."

Miss Nardella, 40, was an insurance consultant at Aon Corp. Single, she owned her own house in Bloomfield, N.J., and was active in her local parish. She was a member of the choir and a regular lector, distinguished by her professional manner of dressing and speaking, and by a certain gentle kindness.

"Every Sunday after Mass she'd wait for this old man to come out and she'd help him walk down the steps of the church," said Msgr. William Hatcher, pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle.

Not sure what to say?

Cathy’s thoughtful ways will never be forgotten. Her cruel and violent end does not diminish the lovely, kind person she was. My thoughts and prayers are for her family today.

I think of Cathy often, on her birthday in November, on 9/11. I think of her brothers and sisters, and especially her mom. Her family will always be in her heart and prayers. With love, Nancy Supple Salus xoxo

I didn´t know Cathy, but I think of her every year. Where I work we had a memorial for all the lives lost on that horrible day. Every flag that was present had a name of a person who had died and I picked Catherine´s name. Any time I´m reminded of that day and especially on 9/11, she is always thought of and prayed for. I also pray for family too, every year, so I hope that brings them some comfort. She is not forgotten! God bless her family.

I worked with Cathy at Prudential in Parsippany in the mid-80s. She was a colleague and a friend. She was smart, funny, and always thought of others. My housemates and I held many large gatherings at our place 5 minutes from the Prudential campus. Cathy would always show up with many bags of food and then would help clean up afterwards. That is who she was. I lost touch with her after we both left Prudential and found out years later that she was a victim of the 9/11...

I think about Cathy any time a reference to 911 comes up, and always on the anniversary. I worked with her as a vendor and always enjoyed our interactions together, as well as an occasional lunch out. Cathy treated me and everyone she met with the utmost respect and digbity. She is missed and will always be in my thoughts. Thoughts & prayers to her family and those who loved her. Richard

I think about Cathy quite a bit. We worked together at both Prudential and Aon. I will never forget how Cathy rushed to my side and held me when I learned at work that my father had died. She was more than a co-worker. She was my friend.

To all the Nardella family: I think about Cathy often. I pray for all of you often. I have fond memories of playing and hanging out with Cathy. I remember "sneaking into" Leonard's room to listen to his records. Gary Lewis and the Four Seasons songs still remind me of Cathy. Seeing her at Holy Cross church years later was such a nice surprise. She was always so sweet and funny and kind. I wish the family peace and know your faith will sustain you.
Much love,
Nancy Salus (Supple)

Still think of Cathy so often. Those times that the images of that day come on the TV or a magazine spread etc. my heart aches with pain for the way we lost her. My sweet cousin Cathy, you will be missed and thought of as long as I have breath..

Always remember and always in our hearts my Prudential rfiend.
