Catherine J. Borthwick, age 86, of Old Forge, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was preceded in death in 1993 by her husband, Kenneth Borthwick. Born in Duryea on March 1, 1924, daughter of the late Arthur and Irene Horseman Kemler, Catherine was a graduate of the former Duryea High School, Class of 1942. A lifelong member of the Brick United Methodist Church in Duryea, she had held many church offices throughout the years and had taught Sunday School for over fifty years. She is survived by 3 children; 2 sons, Kenneth A. Borthwick and wife Carol Ann, Duryea and Thomas Borthwick and wife Mary of West Scranton and her daughter, Sylvia Easton and husband Robert of Matewan, West Virginia, a sister, Alice Tambur of Old Forge, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A brother, Arthur Kemler, and sisters; Doris Panetski, Sarah Petro and Edna Weitz, also preceded her in death. Funeral services and committal prayers by the Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora, Pastor of the Brick U.M. Church, will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment, Langcliffe Cemetery in Avoca. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Catherine's name to her church, Brick U.M. Church (c/o 935 Foote Street, Duryea, 18642).
