Nelson Funeral Home Obituary

Catherine Ann Edelman (nee Rafel) fell asleep in the Lord on May 14, 2025. Beloved wife of Guy Edelman. Loving mother of Lucas, Hillary and Nicholas. Devoted daughter of the late Joan and George Rafel. Proud grandmother of Penelope. Dear sister of Barbara Rafel and the late Anthony Rafel. Cherished sister-in-law of Gregg Edelman and Patrick McGarrigle. Fond aunt of Kevan, Zoe and Ethan.

Cathy’s approach to life was always a studied balance of love, strength and common sense. A warm and compassionate presence, Cathy brought comfort to those around her. Following graduation from the University of Illinois, she served as a Pollution Control Officer for the Metropolitan Sanitary District, investigating and prosecuting industrial waterway polluters. Cathy
was an avid lifelong learner and puzzle enthusiast, especially enjoying besting her husband in Sudoku and the New York Times crosswords. A proud Greek-American, Cathy instilled a deep and abiding love for Greek culture in her husband and children. Her many loves included her family, the Cubbies and the Grateful Dead, not always in that order.

Visitation Monday, May 19 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 W Talcott Road, Park Ridge. Funeral service Tuesday, May 20 at 9:30AM at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 1401 Wagner Road, Glenview. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, River Grove. Memorial donations to the American Lung Association https://www.lung.org/get-involved/ways-to-give would be appreciated.
