Catherine Sue Freedman died Tuesday, February 11 at the Marjorie P. Lee Retirement Center in Cincinnati after a long illness. She was 72. Born in Hamilton on August 16, 1941 to Fred and Martha (Grothaus) Schwab, she graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1959 and earned a bachelors and masters degrees in business from the University of Cincinnati. She worked for many years as an advertising executive in Cincinnati. Sue married Joel Freedman in 1966 and had 11 happy years with him before his sudden death from a heart attack. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a beloved aunt and uncle. She is survived by many loving cousins and an extensive circle of friends, some of whom date from her grade-school years. Sue was passionate about politics and current events, food, books, the city of Cincinnati, scrabble and crossword puzzles, movies and theater, Downton Abbey and Mad Men (which she could critique as only a woman who had worked in the advertising world of the 60s could), her iPad, and her friends and family. She was inquisitive, interesting, and informed. She was one of the first women ever to complete a U.C. graduate business program. After a successful career in advertising, she spent nearly ten years sailing in the Caribbean, then returned to Ohio to help her parents and aunt through their final years. She lived a rich, full life, and she will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her. A memorial service celebrating her life is planned for April. www.ivey-rosehill.com
