Catherine Harkins Obituary
Catherine Abby Harkins
Catherine "Katie" Harkins passed away on Sunday, February 12th 2023, surrounded by her family. Katie was the beloved wife of 49 years to Brian Harkins, devoted mother to Carly Harkins (fiancé, Josh Saunders) and Matthew Harkins (wife, Shannon Harkins), and adoring grandmother to Connor and Sean Harkins. She is also survived by her loving sisters Lillian O'Connell Samolis (husband, Frank Samolis) and Amy O'Connell.
Katie was born in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Trinity College in Washington, DC. She was a long-standing active member of her community while raising a tightly knit family. Over the years she was an avid reader and enthusiastic member of her book club of close friends. She loved hosting family get togethers, cooking, traveling, and admiring flowers.
Katie will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service in celebration of her life, will be held at Joseph Gawler's and Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW (corner of Harrison Street) Washington, DC 20016 on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation hours on Friday, February 17th from 6pm-8pm. Memorial donations may be made to Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation in her name.

Dear Brian,
I learned today of Katie's passing from Janet Higgins. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Katie was a woman of courage, humor and grace. Joe and I are grateful to have known her.

I met Katie at Lafayette counting money for the raffle. We were novices. I had my one and a half year old sidekick with me. Katie welcomed me with open arms and told me about Carly. We loved Carly. Jamie could spend the entire evening brushing her hair. Katie had us over her house. She was so warm and welcoming. We left Lafayette in 1999. My heartfelt condolences to the entire Haskins family. Big cyber hugs
