HAYES, Catherine Elizabeth Carter, 80, of Ashland, Va., departed this life August 16, 2013 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Deacon Ernest D. Hayes Sr.; five children, Jacqueline and Berdie Hayes, Shirley Murchison (Allen), Ernestine Hall (Jay) and Earnest Hayes Jr.; one adopted daughter, Helena Wright; seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Harris (Ellis) and Annie Carter; one brother, Harry Carter Jr. (Edmonia); and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Remains rest with Owens Funeral Services, 104 Green Chimneys Ct., Ashland, Va. 23005, where there will be a public viewing Wednesday (today), from 12 to 8 p.m. and also where family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Brown Grove Baptist Church, 9328 Ashcake Rd., Ashland, Va.
