Capturing Cat in Words
The question, at last, is put to Andrew Caspersen: Did your girlfriend have any flaws?

Long pause.

Catherine Fairfax MacRae, granddaughter of a founding partner of the law firm LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, won the math prize at the Brearley School, was editor of its newspaper, and was a ferocious field hockey player. At Princeton she made varsity squash and graduated magna cum laude in economics, with concentrations in math and finance. She never pulled an all-nighter and usually finished her work a week ahead, said Channing Barnett, a friend.

Cat was never late and expected the same when you met her for dinner. She was inexhaustibly thoughtful, always checking in, sending small gifts, and fretting that she was not being a good enough friend, seemingly to hundreds. She was beautiful and funny and charmingly self-deprecating and talked on the phone to her mother at least three times a day.

People always wanted her at their parties.

She was 23, and a stock analyst at Fred Alger Management on the 93rd floor of 1 World Trade Center.

Mr. Caspersen?

"She was not great with driving directions and we'd get lost quite often," conceded Mr. Caspersen, a Harvard law student. "But that was a bonus. It allowed us to spend more time together."

Not sure what to say?

Well Catherine, the sorrow I feel over your unfortunate passing on Sept 11th is hard to describe. RIP girl.
A.L.

I never knew Catherine but after visiting the 9/11 memorial in 2009 her name has stuck with me ever since, we share the same surname and for that reason only her name stuck out, I have only just found this page and can put a face to the name, RIP Catherine.

My heart had died too, when you died.

I may not have known you well, but your friendship and kindness will always be remembered in my heart.

In Memory
With Honor & Respect.

Thinking of you and your family with so much love.
Every year.
Always.

Catherine I never knew you but I grieve for you and the 2,605 people that were so senselessly murdered that awful day in our country's history. May your soul rest in everlasting piece.

To Catherine and her family, especially her parents: Thought of you today, on what would have been your 34th bday. While life has gone on for the rest of us, so has the sadness and anger for your loss, and for the loss of so many others. My own daughter (now 32-years-old), who was near but not inside the towers, remains disconsolate. Even though we didn't know you personally, we will never forget you...and as the mother of a young woman barely more than a year younger than you, I will think...

Catherine, I am so thankful to have known you, I thank god that you didn't suffer. You thougt me so much, you were my babysitter on the weekend and I pray you are in a better place.

I never met you but today I found out I am having a girl and I thought I would honor you by naming her Catherine. May you rest in eternal peace forever.
