Cincinnati Roots

Cathy P. Salter could be counted on to show up for the annual pool party, baseball game or road trip with her friends in Cincinnati. Even when she moved to Brooklyn Heights nearly two years ago, that didn't change. "She was back almost once a month," said her friend Kim Ohl. She bought season tickets for Cincinnati Reds games. She volunteered to bring an opera cream cake to the fall wine tasting. Last spring, when it became clear that her 16-year-old dog, Babette, would not live much longer, Ms. Salter bundled her into the car and drove west to give her one last glimpse of Cincinnati.

An assistant vice president in the property claims department at Aon, Ms. Salter, 37, was known as "the superaunt" to her 11 nieces and nephews, pouring her energy into activities with them, said her younger sister, Lynda Kelley. She loved romantic movies like "The Cutting Edge," and celebrated Mardi Gras every year with a trip to New Orleans, accompanied by three or four friends.

Ms. Ohl spoke to her on Sept. 10. "Cathy called me and said, `What's the number for the Bonbonerie?' " That's a bakery in Cincinnati, and she wanted to order the cake she said she would bring to the wine party in October. She was planning to be there.

Not sure what to say?

Back in 2001 I worked in Risk Management for Frank's Nursery & Crafts (prior to their filing bankruptcy.) One of our stores had had a fire and a fire loss claim was pending that Cathy had been assigned to. It takes several months to complete and close a fire claim. Our corporate offices located in Troy, MI had a bit of trouble releasing our final "salvaged goods" report - a report that Cathy had been waiting for as our claims contact at Aon - NYC World Trade Center. At approximately 4:45 pm...

My family and I are on holiday from the uk and visited the 9 11 memorial today. We stopped to view the fountain and read the names directly below us. We were amazed to read the name Catherine Patricia salter. We are called salter. Thinking of Catherine and her family

Your sister, Cyndy, is one of my favorite people. I know how much she misses you. All your loved ones are in my thoughts today.

I was walking past a 9/11 memorial today, and I woman handed me a flag that had Catherine's name on the handle. I came here to find out who she was. It sounds like she was a wonderful person, and I'm sure she is greatly missed. Today I am thinking of Catherine while I say a prayer for peace.

Cathy - I went to NYC - just like I have done for the past twelve years. I was one of the readers this year and I was honored to read your nme. While I was waiting I looked at the other readers' faces and saw all the sense of loss and pain that they were feeling - I knew that if I let my own raw pain show that I would not be able to hold things together - so I just told how I remember how much fun you were to be with - you would light up my world just hearing you laugh. I would give...

12 year anniversary today. Still so sad, but your spirit is still so strong.

Cathy and I worked together in the mid 1990's when I was at the the then AIG in claims and she was with Aon Cincinnati. I left the workforce for many years to raise my sons. On 9/1/01, I had heard that Cathy had moved to NY and I searched only to find that she was one of those who did not make it out of the WTC. My sorrow is with Cathy's family and all of those who lost loved ones on a day that those left behind will never forget. I hope today's memorial service, the wall of names and the...

Cathy, I did not know you very well as we only were co-workers for a short time before you moved to NYC. I remember how fun and full of life you were and how many of my co-workers liked you so very much. Your spirit lives on and the lives you touched will never forget you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family today.
