Catherine Louise Thomas, 95, of Fayetteville, PA went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Doey's House in Hagerstown, MD surrounded by her beloved family.
Born on August 22, 1927, in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Nellie Markley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Thomas, brothers, Harold, Charles, Donald, and James Markley, and sisters, Irene Hamel and Ruth Markley.
Mrs. Thomas loved the Lord and with that love she served her church as well as her community. All who met Catherine will never forget the impressions she has left. She had a big heart that welcomed with open arms.
She had a very strong work-ethic. Before retirement, she was an instructor at the Maryland School for the Deaf, a career where she flourished. Mrs. Thomas was also known for her skills as a seamstress.
Catherine was an incredibly family oriented woman who made sure her children knew they were cared for. They will never forget the unbelievable baked goods that she would prepare as well preserve all kinds of food, every dish garnished with love.
She is survived by daughters, Sharon Christman, of Hagerstown, MD and Cathy Ficken, of Falling Waters, WV; son, Mark Thomas, of Fayetteville, PA; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren plus one on the way; brothers, Willard Markley and Barry Markley; and sister, Donna Markley.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Black Rock Bible Church, 9646 Crystal Falls Drive, Hagerstown, 21740. A public viewing will be held at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Meal at noon in the Fellowship Hall.
Burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.

What a beautiful soul Catherine was gifted with. Every time I talked with her she always asked how you were doing! Catherine loved the Lord, her family & people! All our lives were so blessed in knowing "Katie"... Catherine, well done here on earth, you good & faithful servant of our Lord!
